Cachapas y Mas is a vibrant Venezuelan restaurant nestled in the heart of New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood at 107 Dyckman St. This cozy and inviting spot expertly captures the rich, soulful flavors of Venezuelan and broader South American cuisine, offering both a quick bite and a delightful dining experience.
The menu here is a treasure trove for lovers of authentic Latin American flavors. Standouts like the Patacon, a smashed green plantain sandwich bursting with savory goodness, and the Ham and Cheese Cachapa, a warm, cheesy corn pancake that melts in your mouth, are consistently celebrated. For something heartier, the Maracucha Burger uniquely blends the familiar with Venezuelan flair, while the Chicken Cachapa and Grill Chicken Arepa offer tender, juicy delights that showcase their mastery of traditional techniques. Vegetarians will also appreciate dishes like Polenta and the ever-popular Tequeños Cheese Sticks, which offer crispy, cheesy comfort in every bite.
The array of natural juices, or Jugos Naturales, is a refreshing complement to the robust menu. From the tropical sweetness of Piña Pineapple and tangy Chinola Passion Fruit to the nostalgic, creamy Chicha rice milkshake infused with condensed milk and cinnamon, each sip transports you straight to the vibrant streets of Venezuela. For those looking for classic beverages, they also offer a thoughtful selection including Frescolita and Malta Polar, further enhancing the authentic experience.
What truly makes Cachapas y Mas shine is the care and passion evident in every dish. Customers consistently praise the flavors that “dissolve slowly” on the palate, leaving a lasting impression of expertly balanced spices and fresh ingredients. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, you’ll find the service warm and efficient, creating an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and genuine—a little gem where every meal is an event unto itself.
Regulars rave about the quick, friendly service and the mindful preparation of each order. Emma B shares how her Arepa Pabellon was “maybe one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten,” while Erin Torfason calls the cachapa “delicious, so flavourful and cheesy,” proving it’s well worth hopping on the subway for. And although Jennifer Diaz notes occasional inconsistencies with steak options, her love for the ham and cheese variants and the palito de queso (cheese sticks) remains strong — a testament to the consistently delightful offerings.
Whether you’re winding down after a stroll through nearby Fort Tryon Park or searching for a taste of Venezuela in New York City, Cachapas y Mas offers a distinct and heartwarming culinary journey. Each bite reveals a story of heritage crafted with skill, inviting you to savor not just a meal, but a true cultural experience.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the neighborhood! I had the Arepa Pabellon (grilled) and it was maybe one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. Everyone was super nice and service was quick. The Tequeño was also great.
Wow the cachapa was delicious - so flavourful and cheesy! Friendly service as well. This restaurant is definitely worth the subway ride! After spending the morning in Fort Tryon Park, this was a great place for lunch.
First timer, very easy access via the 1 train. Not even a two minute walk. The service was expected, they took our order, asked if we wanted everything on our sandwiches and asked if we were dining in or to go. Once we ordered it took about 7 minutes to receive our food. They walked it out to us. We sat outside, there are 3 tables there. Today was a nice 70~ day. Now onto the food, it was all delicious, I had the Yoyo Sandwich with mix meat and the Pepito with Polo Mechado. Pictures are attached. Both were great. I would definitely come back again!
This is one of my all time favorite restaurants and they never really disappoint! I will say that there have been times in the past when I would get steak cachapas and the steak would be a little too hard/fatty but I don’t typically order that anymore. I love the ham and cheese cachapas as well as other variations! The palito de queso are delicious as well!! Definitely recommend getting one of the beverages available inside!
Amazing skill evident in how perfectly each dish is prepared. The flavors dissolved slowly while I tried to make them last. They treat you well in an inviting environment. Our meals arrived fast thanks to excellent service. This restaurant showed they appreciated me.
I was in the area and decided to stop by randomly — I am so glad I did. I ordered the cachapa pabellon (pictured) and it was deeply flavorful and delicious. I would absolutely recommend this spot for this dish alone! Can’t want to be back and try more of what the restaurant has to offer.
